Excessive Absences

Regular attendance is essential for your student’s success, and both our campus and district recognize the importance of being present. To remain in compliance with TEA (Texas Education Agency) all students are required to attend at least 90% of the school year, regardless of whether absences are excused or unexcused. Missing instruction can significantly impact academic progress.

AFC & FTA

There are two critical aspects of attendance: AFC (Attendance for Credit) and FTA (Failure to Attend).

  • AFC Letters are sent home after a student accumulates four absences in any one class period, serving as a warning. A second letter is issued after nine absences, notifying parents that the student has lost credit and needs to make up hours to regain it.

  • FTA Letters are issued according to Texas Education Association (TEA) guidelines. A warning letter is sent after three unexcused absences, followed by a second letter after five unexcused absences. If a student reaches 10 unexcused absences, parents will be notified of the school’s intent to file charges in a court of law if attendance does not improve.

Credit Recovery Due to Excessive Absences

If a student misses more than 10% of their classes, they will be required to attend Friday School to make up for the lost instructional and seat time. Here are the details:

  • Schedule: Every Friday from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM

  • Location: Common Area

  • Transportation:

    • Parents can pick up their student at 4:30 PM when Friday School concludes.

    • Alternatively, students can take the late bus, which will drop them off at Mustang-Panther Stadium.

This ensures that students have the opportunity to recover missed instructional time and stay on track academically.

TCC College Absences

If your student is enrolled in a TCC NE college course, it’s important to note the following:

  • Attendance Policy: Professors can drop students from a 16-week class after five absences.

  • Significance: This emphasizes the importance of consistent attendance in ensuring academic success at every level of education.

Regular attendance is critical to staying enrolled and progressing in college courses.

At Collegiate Academy, we are dedicated to ensuring that students receive credit for courses where they have earned a passing grade. However, maintaining good attendance is primarily the student’s responsibility. We strongly encourage you to regularly log in to Skyward Family Access to stay updated on your student’s attendance record.

By partnering together, we can help your student succeed on their journey to earning both a high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree—at no cost. Your support, combined with our efforts, can make a significant difference in their academic success.
