Collegiate Academy weekly clubs meet the last period of the day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
Sponsor: Ms. Yesenia Martinez Vela
Email: yesenia.martinezvela@gcsid.net
Meets: Tuesdays
Purpose: When
you all made the decision to come to Collegiate Academy it was likely
influenced in one way or another by the student ambassadors that came to
your school and tried to sell you on the Collegiate Academy experience.
They aren’t limited to going to middle schools, but instead also have a
program setup with elementary schools in which they mentor 5th graders,
and are the students that we call upon to meet with visitors to our
school. If you’re the kind of person that can sell ice to an eskimo and
wants to help other people share in the amazing opportunity you’ve been
given at Collegiate Academy then this is the club for you!
Sponsor: Mrs. Haney
Email: Kristinia.Haney@gcsid.net
Meets: Tuesdays
Purpose:
In this club, members explore their individual interests in small
groups. Students will identify their interests and gather materials to
work on their project from home. Students will then work on these
projects they design for themselves and will present their creations and
learning in a showcase each semester and on our club blog. In the past
students explored juggling, piano, coding, random acts of kindness, and
jewelry making. We will expand our opportunities. Imagine, inspire,
transform!
Creative Writing
Sponsor: Mr. Dye
Email: Mark.Dye@gcisd.net
Purpose: Pens
and pencils madly scribbling, the students in Creative Writing Club
craft stories and poetry packed to the brim with sensory details and
powerful metaphors, like engines churning out art instead of thrust.
Primarily the club provides three opportunities for its members:
improving their overall writing skills, getting them published, and
creating a Collegiate Academy literary magazine. Mr. Dye will help
students with whatever their needs are on a given story, and all
assignments are self-determined. (You can write what you want!)
Math Club
Sponsor: Ms. Roberts
Email: Sarah.Roberts@gcisd.net
Purpose: Some
people prefer 3.14 to pumpkin pie. Some people go to six flags just to
look at the parabolas created by the roller coasters. And some people
know that the reason that ⅕ was stressed was because he was 2/10. If
you’re someone that falls into the aforementioned categories or is just
someone that is interested in competing in math tournaments then this is
the club for you!
Soccer
Sponsor: Mr. Valentin
Email: juan.valentin@gcisd.net
Purpose: Collegiate Soccer is a Co-ed team that competes with other ECHSs and with each other. If you like soccer you will love CA Soccer!
Student Council
Sponsor: Ms. Waters
Email: Jessica.Waters@gcisd.net
Purpose: We
all want to make a difference and we all know the best way to improve
our school. Student Council is the club that has the biggest impact on
changing and improving our school every single year, whether it be
through planning our dances, the festival of lights float, or any of the
other extremely important activities Mrs. Waters has you doing. If
you’re someone with great ideas and is looking to improve the school you
chose to attend then this is the club for you!
Volleyball
Sponsor: Ms. Jackson
Email: Lauren.Jackson@gcisd.net
Purpose: Sometimes
we all want to hit a ball really hard, and this club gives you the
perfect opportunity to do just that. Our volleyball club consists of
several co-ed teams that play against each other on Friday’s and will
begin playing against the other early colleges in the future. If you’re
someone that has a history of playing volleyball, sand volleyball, water
volleyball or no volleyball whatsoever then this is the club for you!
Sponsor: Mark Dye
Email: Mark.Dye@gcisd.net
Meets: Mondays and Wednesdays
Purpose: Everyone
wants to be voted most likely to succeed, best hair, or funniest jokes,
but even if you don’t win it’s awesome to get to decide which hilarious
pictures of your friends end up in the yearbook to accompany those
awards. If you’re someone that is only a couple million Instagram
followers away from internet stardom and who loves to put filters on any
and every picture you’ve ever taken then this is the club for you!
Extra Curricular Student Clubs - Any student can participate in these clubs.
Basketball
Sponsor: Mr. Valentin
Email: juan.valentin@gcisd.net

Purpose: Students get to enjoy physical activity and a sport they love while competing with other early college high school campuses.
